Famous World Leader Project

Welcome 7th graders!

This is our Library Skills wiki which we will all contribute to as we research our famous world leaders. What is a wiki?! Click on the link and let's find out!

Please follow these directions:

  1. Find a biographical dictionary and read the paragraph about your famous person. Begin filling in your wiki page with information that you discover.
  2. Select an encyclopedia, read the entry, and continue adding to your wiki page.
  3. STOP! Take a deep breath and smile! You have just done real research and used modern technology to record your thoughts. Awesome!!!!
  4. Now, the beauty of this wiki is that you can also see what everyone else in our class is doing! So your next task is to find your person in the list under pages and files and instead of clicking on yours, visit the next entry in the list. Read the information, then add a comment and a question addressed to the student(s) responsible for that world leader at the end of their page. Check back after a couple of class sessions to see whether they have answered your question!
  5. After we have discussed good Internet search strategies as a class, explore the Wilson database to research your famous person. Add any new information to your wiki page.
  6. Next try a directory such as Librarians' Index to the Internet (lii.org)to look for new information on the web and add any new information. Record which directory you went to.
  7. Finally, try at least two search engines (the more, the better) and record any new information. Tell me which search engines you used. Were some more helpful than others? Let me know!
  8. Have you checked to see if your question on someone else's page has been answered? Have you answered questions on your page? If not, do this now.
  9. WOW! You've done great research!!! Now think about what is really neat about your world leader. What would you like to share with your classmates? Why are they unique? Why did they become famous? Were there some events in their lives or personality traits that you discovered which you found really interesting?
  10. Ask Mrs. Goyne for a Story Board template. Begin filling in your PowerPoint storyboard. When you are satisfied, show it to Mrs. Goyne. Once approved, you are ready to begin work on your PowerPoint presentation.
  11. Next steps:   Create PowerPoint and present!

Extra credit:  Find an image on the Internet of your famous world leader, save it your account on the school's server, and paste it into your wiki page!
